Squadron History

History of the ATC 

In 1938 Air Commodore Chamier formed an Air Defence Cadet Corps (ADCC). His idea was to train interested young men that had an interest in aviation.

From this the Air Training Corps (ATC) was formed on the 5th February 1941

The aims of the ATC are:

·       To promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force.

·       To provide training this will be useful in the services and civilian life.

·       To foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and citizenship.

In 1952 Prince Philip became Air Commodore in Chief.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award was introduced in 1956.

On the 5th February 1962 it was the 21st Anniversary of the formation of the Air Training Corps

Girls were allowed to join from 1980.

Our Wing Commander is A Sneider RAFVR(T)

Headquarters Air Cadets (HQAC) is located at RAF college Cranwell.
